Further advancing International Medical Collaboration from Nagasaki
I am honored to assume the position of Director of the International Medical Center at Nagasaki University Hospital, effective October 2025.
Nagasaki University Hospital traces its origins to the “Yojosho,” Japan’s first modern Western-style hospital. For more than 160 years, the hospital has contributed to the advancement of medicine through clinical care, education, and research. Historically, Nagasaki has served as a gateway connecting Japan with the world, and our hospital has likewise developed through a long tradition of international exchange and medical collaboration.
Building on this history, the International Medical Center was established in 2011 to further expand the hospital’s role in an increasingly globalized society. Since its establishment, the Center has promoted a wide range of initiatives, including the acceptance of international patients and the training of healthcare professionals from overseas.
Looking ahead, we will continue to enhance our support systems for international patients and visitors from abroad, while promoting the development of medical professionals capable of working on the global stage. In addition, we will further strengthen our partnerships with medical institutions around the world and contribute to the advancement of global health from our base in Nagasaki.
We sincerely appreciate your continued understanding and support.
Hisamitsu Miyaaki, M.D., Ph.D.
